This year, SedFest features.....

Speed Orange

Speed Orange is a rock band who wears their Western Suburbs credentials firmly on their sleeves. The video to their last single “Oh Mama” was shot entirely in Footscray and broadcast all over Europe, leading to a bizarre and unexpected run of success in Germany of all places!
The band is currently recording their second album “I Am The Devil They Call Love” and will be taking a break from their Footscray recording studio for a special one off gig at Seddon Festival in the Park. Speed Orange head out on national tour in support of the album during April.

SKAZZ

The musicians that were brought together for this band are the finest that money can't buy. They play for love. They play to make people dance, to forget their worries, to lift them to a place beyond the everyday where there is only joy. This ensemble plays with the enthusiasm and sense of fun that jazz once had… but that's not to say they don't take their jobs seriously. The combined musical history of these players covers everything from mainstream pop to fringe theatre; from straight-ahead jazz to classical and traditional African; circus bands to film scores, Skazz features some of Melbourne’s best from a diversity of genres: Drums David Joseph Bass Paul Binns Keyboards Michael Havir Guitar Baz Turnbull Tenor Sax Cam Robbins Trombone Kynan Robinson Trumpet Peter Knight Percussion Tim Webb This bands most recent recording has hit the scene in April 2007. THE SMOKING GUN is Ska with Class and Jazz with Arse!! Recently Skazz played to packed audiences at Commonwealth Games gigs, in Victoria. They have performed at the Apollo Bay Music Festival at Bar 303 and Bar Open. In 2002, the band recorded, Welcome to Civilisation featuring ska classics along with seven original tunes featuring irresistible grooves and funky blowing, Welcome to Civilisation and was launched at The Ninth Ward . Throughout 2002 Skazz wooed dancing audiences at Fitzroy’s Night Cat. The success of their year culminated in the exciting official opening of Melbourne’s Federation Square. During the Melbourne Festival at Clubspiegel Skazz ignited on stage with a proud line-up of six horn players blowing wildly into the night as the band kept dancers on their toes at The Famous Spiegeltent. In 2003 SKAZZ were featured in festivals such as Noumea’s annual “Live En Aout” Music Festival, and the Queenscliff Music Festival. The inspirational playing of SKAZZ transformed listeners into dancers with encore after encore! Other highlights for Skazz include playing at the St Kilda Festival, The Belgian Beer Café, Bar Open, The Beechworth Easter Festival, Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea and for a return performance at the Queenscliff Music Festival 2004.

The Trips

The Trips are a dynamic three-piece band from Melbourne. Their combination of musical talent, harmonies and passion for rock n roll separates them from the typical, pathetic girl band cliché. The Trips raw, garage sound stems from the roots of a mixture of The Vines, The Strokes, The Rolling Stones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Veruca Salt and Nirvana.
Formed in May 2005, The Trips line-up consists of Erin on guitar, Laura on bass, and finally, Calvin on drums. When The Trips hit the stage they deliver a lively and entertaining set which leaves the audience wanting more. This has led to the development of a dedicated and supportive fan base, who will never miss a show. The Trips have already set alight the stages of The Laundry, the Empress, Ding Dong Lounge, The Commercial Hotel, The Noise Bar, POGO and others.

We welcome back these wild young things for their second SedFest appearance!

The Mercurials
Adi Sappir / cello, vocals
Mark Ferrie / guitar, vocals
Andrew Pendlebury / guitar.....
The Mercurials are a musical trio hailing from Melbourne, Australia that has been performing regularly since the start of the 2004. They draw on a number of musical bases (including blues, folk, rock and classical) to produce a sound that is a unique product of the Melbourne musical environment. They have been described as a ‘contemporary folk chamber group’.  The group is composed of ARIA award winning guitarist Andrew Pendlebury, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Mark Ferrie and Adi Sappir, an adventurous, young cellist and vocalist. Mark and Andrew have played together in various combinations on the local music scene for over 30 years. Adi, who originally hails from Israel, joined the group after Mark came across her busking in a city subway. Their live repertoire includes original material in addition to interpretations of tunes by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Irving Berlin, Kraftwerk, and Neil Young. A feature of the group is the wondrous vocals of Adi, who sings in both English and her native Hebrew. The group first came together in late December of 2003 to perform at the Ian Potter Gallery in the National Gallery of Victoria at Federation Square and have since made appearances on the Derek Guille Evening program on ABC radio  plus the popular ‘Off The Record’ and ‘JVG Radio Method’ programs on 3RRR. They have also won over audiences at the 2004 Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Boite World Music Café in North Fitzroy, the 2006 Port Fairy Folk Festival, the 2006 Mt Beauty Music Muster and a host of music venues and festivals around Melbourne and rural Victoria. The Mercurials released their debut self titled CD in June 2005 and launched it to a sell-out audience at Dizzy’s nightclub in Richmond. The band took a break from performing live in 2007 when Adi gave birth to her first child, daughter Gali. The group is now back performing regularly and promoting their second CD release entitled 'Tangents'. The combination of Mark and Andrew, who have played together in various combinations on the Melbourne live music scene since the mid 70s, and the exotic new dimension which Adi brings to the mix, has resulted in a unique, magical, world class musical ensemble with a truly refreshing new sound.
